The Nemean lion had never been hurt. Not once. Arrows folded against the hide, spears turned, swords rang off like bells, and the lion walked through a world that could not touch it, which sounds like a blessing until you sit with it. Nothing gets in. Not the blades, not anything else. It lived in a cave with two mouths and no equals, invulnerable and alone, until a man came who put down every weapon and just took hold.
