Apollo's raven
Apollo only wanted water. He sent his white raven with the cup and stood by the altar while the fire waited, and the raven did not come back, and did not come back. When it finally landed it carried a snake and a story, the snake did it, the snake kept me. Apollo had watched the whole thing from where gods watch. The figs, the dawdling, the easy lie. He didn't shout. He just let the white go out of the feathers, quiet as evening, and hung the bird where the sky could keep it honest.
