A reading-room window onto the sky
Mystic Cards
A Mystic Card takes the constellation riding highest over you right now, where you stand, and hands you the old Greek myth behind its name, painted in our own hand, with the constellation's realstars laid over it in their true positions. Draw what's near, or draw at random.
It isn't a fortune. It's an invitation, sit with an ancient story for a minute and notice what it echoes in your own week. The constellation overhead changes through the night and the seasons; or pick any of the 33 below.

A Mystic Card · the constellation over you now
Chrysomallos
the golden ram
Phrixus was already at the altar, the knife somewhere behind him, a stepmother's lie doing its work, when the gold came down out of the air. A ram, impossible, sent by his own mother's prayer, wool bright as a struck match. He climbed on because there was nothing else to climb on. He lost his sister over the water and landed in a strange country alive, which is how survival often goes, not clean, not whole, but breathing. He gave the fleece away, hung it on a tree, and started over.
Grieve what the crossing cost you, that's not ingratitude, that's honesty.
