A reading-room window onto the sky
Mystic Cards
A Mystic Card takes the constellation riding highest over you right now, where you stand, and hands you the old Greek myth behind its name, painted in our own hand, with the constellation's realstars laid over it in their true positions. Draw what's near, or draw at random.
It isn't a fortune. It's an invitation, sit with an ancient story for a minute and notice what it echoes in your own week. The constellation overhead changes through the night and the seasons; or pick any of the 33 below.

A Mystic Card · the constellation over you now
Ladon
the dragon at the apples
The sky wrapped the dragon around its own still point. Draco coils between the two bears, winding nearly around the pole star, the one light that doesn't move, and if you trace him on a clear night the shape takes a while, he's long, he takes his time. It's a fitting place for a guard. The pole is the sky's most precious thing, the hinge everything turns on, and the old dragon circles it slowly, still on duty, gentler now.
Faithfulness is a skill, count yours as work even when nobody sees the watch.
