A reading-room window onto the sky
Mystic Cards
A Mystic Card takes the constellation riding highest over you right now, where you stand, and hands you the old Greek myth behind its name, painted in our own hand, with the constellation's realstars laid over it in their true positions. Draw what's near, or draw at random.
It isn't a fortune. It's an invitation, sit with an ancient story for a minute and notice what it echoes in your own week. The constellation overhead changes through the night and the seasons; or pick any of the 33 below.

Zeus
the bull
Zeus had thunder, eagles, the whole arsenal of awe, and for Europa he chose gentleness, or the costume of it. A white bull, wide-eyed, flowers in its breath, kneeling in the meadow grass so a girl would think, tame. Then the sea, the shore shrinking, her hands knotted in the one thing she could hold, which was him. Crete rose ahead. A continent would carry her name and she never asked for any of it. The sky keeps the bull, horns and eye and shoulder. It does not say he was right.
Notice what you're climbing onto before the shore gets small.
