Two cups set down close, almost touching, the small distance between two people gone soft and warm. This is the meeting, the moment one Self recognizes another and decides to say so out loud. Love, sometimes. A friendship that surprises you, sometimes. Any moment when two people show each other something true across a little wooden table. Lift the cup. The toast is real.

Reversed

Both cups raised, but not toward each other, and the warmth in the room is being spent on different things. The slow drift you have been pretending not to feel asks now to be named. What are you actually drinking to.
