Upright
A figure walks away from eight cups stacked in the foreground, into a mountain landscape under a great moon. The Eight of Cups is the leaving — the choice to walk away from something that was almost enough but wasn't. The card doesn't make the cups bad. It just acknowledges that you've outgrown them, and that the mountain is calling. Pack lightly. Look back once. Then go.
Reversed
The figure stops walking. The Eight of Cups reversed is the leaving you keep almost doing but don't — the relationship, the job, the city. Sometimes it's the opposite: you've left too quickly, before the thing was finished teaching you. The card asks which one this is. Both can be honest. The work is to know.
