Upright
A small cup of flowers passed from one hand to a smaller one, in a courtyard gone gold with late light. This is the tenderness of an earlier Self, a memory come visiting, a friend from the old days who calls, a small joy that feels older than you are. The card honors the past without asking you to move back into it. Some of who you were is worth keeping. Let the child you were sit down for tea.
Reversed
The same warm courtyard, but the door is bolted, and you keep returning to the old room because the present one is cold. Or the opposite, you have outgrown the keepsake at last and stepped out into the air. Are you using the memory, or is it using you.
In the imagery
A small cup brimming with pressed violets and chamomile sits on a low wooden stool, offered into the warm dusk light of the reading room. A child's drawing is pinned faded to the shelf above, and dried flowers hang going soft and sweet. The handed cup of old flowers is memory offered like tea, warm, and not meant to be lived inside.
