Upright
A figure sits with arms crossed in front of an arc of nine golden cups, looking satisfied. The Nine of Cups is the wish fulfilled — the contentment of getting what you wanted. The card honors the having. Sit in the room. Drink from the cup. Not everything is supposed to be a striving. Some of life is the part where you've already arrived.
Reversed
The cups still there but the satisfaction gone. The Nine of Cups reversed is the wish granted that didn't deliver what you thought it would. Sometimes it's smugness — the having of nine cups without sharing any. Sometimes it's material plenty without the emotional plenty underneath. The card asks what you actually wished for. It might not have been the cups.
