Upright

A quiet leaving, the kind you do at dusk with the kettle off and the candles guttering low. The Six of Swords carries you from one shore of your life to another, after a hard season, the water gone still at last. You don't have to know yet what waits on the far bank or what tea will be brewing there. Just stay in the boat, let the current do its slow work.

Reversed

Drawn reversed, the boat has stalled mid-water, or you never stepped in, the move or the leaving stuck somewhere it should have already finished. Sometimes it is the hand of someone reaching back to pull you toward the old shelf and the old ache. Keep poling. The other side of the room is real.

In the imagery

Past the apothecary window, a small boat slips across still dusk water, a robed figure and a child aboard, a hooded one poling them on. Six blades stand upright in the bow like the dried stems hung to cure on the shelves inside. The deep green water barely moves, and the soft gold of the far shore is only a rumor of light, honoring the long held breath of the in-between.
