Upright
Behind the counter a figure keeps two gold coins moving between the hands, one rising as the other falls, a kettle whistling and an order half-written. The Two of Pentacles is the juggle, the demands of a real life kept aloft by attention and small constant adjustment. The card doesn't pretend it's restful. It just honors the skill of staying upright. Notice what you're keeping in the air, and notice, honestly, what you're letting drop.
Reversed
A coin hits the floorboards and rolls under the shelf, too much asked of too few hands, the whole balance tipping. Or you've juggled so long you've forgotten some of it could simply be set down. Sort the glass from the rubber, drop the rubber, carry only what would shatter.
In the imagery
In the lamplit shop a figure tosses two coins hand to hand, the gold catching the light in a looping arc, steam rising off a pot and a ledger open and waiting. Jars wait half-filled on the counter, two tasks at once and neither finished. The looping motion and the busy, warm clutter carry the card, the daily balancing act of a life kept just barely and skillfully in the air.
