Upright
A hand comes from the candle-smoke holding a single gold coin over a small clay pot of dark soil, a seed already pressed in. The Ace of Pentacles is a beginning with roots, the offer, the opening, the first promise of something solid you could grow. The card asks you to take it seriously, because not every chance is real and this one is. Cup the coin in your palm. Set it in the earth. Tend it.
Reversed
The coin slips between the fingers and rolls off into the shadow under the shelf, the chance let go, the start that never quite started. Or the offer is real and you've talked yourself out of it. Ask whether the scarcity is the world's, or only the story you keep telling about it.
In the imagery
In the warm dusk a hand holds a heavy gold coin above a little pot of soil where a green shoot has just broken through, herbs drying on the dark shelves behind. A doorway beyond stands open onto a dim garden, framed in trailing leaves. The coin and the rooted seed together carry the card, a real beginning offered into a place where things can grow.
