Austin Osman Spare ยท chaos magick
Sigil Maker
Spare wrote out his intention as a positive sentence โ never โI will notโ โ then dropped the vowels and any letter that repeated. The remaining letters fused together into a glyph. The point was to make the intention abstract enough that the conscious mind would stop interfering with it.

How Spare used it
Hold the want in mind as you trace the glyph โ let the line carry the wish, not the words. Then charge it: a held breath, a fixed gaze, a single moment of full attention, and release. After that, the work is to forget it. Draw it where you'll meet it by accident, or let it go entirely; the conscious mind that keeps checking is the one Spare was trying to slip past. This is practice, not a promise.
