Runes

The Elder Futhark — twenty-four letters in three aetts of eight, carved into stone, wood, and bone across northern Europe from the second to the eighth century. Tacitus described Germanic tribes drawing lots from a sack of marked twigs. We add the twentieth-century blank rune for those who prefer it.
