To thirst and find the well dry or the water muddied warned of resources failing, or a friendship spoiled at its source. Trace the stream back, someone upstream has troubled it.
Jungian · the collective unconscious
Thirst is the dream's plainest signal, something essential running low. Water is the unconscious itself, and thirst is a conscious life gone too dry, the cure is to go where the water is.
Thirst that persists after drinking is the sign of a substitute satisfaction, the psyche handed seawater and asked to be grateful. Look at what you have been swallowing instead.
