Drawn up, it speaks of The lake is the unconscious held and contained, deep water with a shore you can sit on. Looking into a still lake is the psyche offering to show you something, a reflecting surface between you and what's below.
Drawn down, it warns of A lake with something moving under the surface is content stirring that you keep declining to look at. Murky or shrinking water speaks of an inner life gone stagnant from being left unvisited.
