The ladder is the work of rising rung by rung, no leaps, consciousness climbing toward what it can't yet see the top of. To climb steadily in a dream is growth happening at the only speed it truly happens.
A ladder missing rungs, or leaning on nothing, is ambition without footing, a climb begun before you asked what wall it's set against.
