Drawn up, it speaks of To dig and strike water or treasure foretold gain through labor, hidden goods coming to the hand that worked for them. Farmers who dreamed of digging were promised a kind season.
Drawn down, it warns of To dig hard ground and find nothing warns of toil without wages. To dig a grave was to prepare a place for something in your own house, look to what is failing there.

Drawn up, it speaks of Digging is depth work made literal, the conscious mind willing to go under its own surface. What you turn up, bone, root, old coin, is the material you are finally ready to work with.
Drawn down, it warns of Digging the same hole over and over, or digging one and standing in it, is rumination in earth-form. Some things want burying more than exhuming, and the dream is asking which this is.
