Drawn up, it speaks of To read a book denotes learning that turns to profit, and news arriving from a learned or distant person. An old book promises an inheritance of some kind, not always money.
Drawn down, it warns of A torn or waterlogged book warns of counsel ignored, or of a record kept against you. To lose your place in a book foretells a plan interrupted midway.

Drawn up, it speaks of The book is the recorded self, everything you have lived pressed flat and waiting to be read again. An open book is the psyche offering its own material for study, memory turning willing.
Drawn down, it warns of A book you cannot read, a language that swims, is knowledge in you not yet ripened into words. A closed or forbidden book is a chapter of your own story kept shelved out of reach.
