Zi Wei Dou Shu

Purple Star Astrology is among the most intricate of the Chinese star sciences. It does not cast or draw; it builds. From the year, month, day, and two-hour mark of your birth, a fixed structure assembles itself: twelve palaces sit on a ring of the twelve Earthly Branches, the Life Palace is found by counting from your birth month through the hours, and the Five Element Bureau is read from the Heavenly Stem of your year. Then Zi Wei, the Emperor star and still pole of the northern sky, drops into its room, and the rest of the company of fourteen major stars falls in around it, each taking the palace where it belongs. Last, four ribbons tie onto four stars, set by the stem of your birth year. Run the same birth twice and the same board returns, which is the whole idea: the chart is a map you were born holding. Here the board reflects, it does not predict; the court names your rooms, and the living in them stays yours.

The birth that builds the board

The board is read from the lunar calendar. We take your civil date as the approximate lunar date, close for most of the year. If you know your true lunar birth date, read both.
