Mythic from the start, even the quiet Dragons. There is a weight in the room, a heat the room cannot quite explain, a sense that something larger has just exhaled in the corner. The Dragon does not have to try to be seen. The Dragon often wishes, in private moments, that it could simply be small for a day and have a regular breakfast. The expectation that arrived with the birth never quite leaves, the family stories, the high hopes, the assumption that this child would be the one. You will hear about luck, about grandeur, about charisma the size of weather. All real, and all a kind of inheritance with a tax. The Dragon spends a lifetime figuring out what is its real fire and what is the fire other people lit on its behalf.
Personality
Generous in scale, ambitious without apology, the friend who pays for the whole table and means it. Visionary in the literal sense, sees the building before the ground is broken, can describe it down to the doorknobs. Holds a room without raising the voice, just by being in it. There is a softness too, often missed, a tenderness about the people the Dragon loves, a willingness to fight for them in ways they will not be told about. Standards are high, for self and for everyone else, and disappointment is the recurring weather. Loyal to a small inner circle and a little cold to everyone outside it. Hates to be small-talked at parties. Will leave a job rather than be managed by someone they do not respect.
The shadow
Pride that becomes a wall. The need to be admired curdles into a need to be unchallenged. Bores easily and can mistake the boredom for a sign that the relationship, the job, the city has failed it. Will burn a thing down rather than be diminished by it. The fire is real and the fire is dangerous when it is bored or wounded. Solitude can become isolation if no one is brave enough to call it back.
In love
Big love or no love. The Dragon does not do mild. Courts with grand gestures, with attention that feels like a spotlight, with promises that mean them at the time. Wants a partner who will not be eaten by the scale of it, who has their own ground, who can say no without flinching. Sex is appetite, performance, devotion in equal measure. Struggles with the daily small unromantic work of partnership. The right love teaches the Dragon how to do the dishes and find them sacred.
At work
Born to lead, or to be the visionary cofounder of whatever the thing is. Lousy as middle management, miserable as a follower. Money usually finds the Dragon, sometimes in waves, sometimes through the success of people the Dragon mentored. Best in roles that require scale, story, charisma, the long bet. Worst in roles that require humility about small details. Needs a second who handles the boring.
Their kind of year
Dragon years run big, dramatic, lucky in flashes and brutal in others. Things accelerate. Long-held dreams either land or finally die, and either one is a relief. The year rewards swinging hard at the thing the rest of the years made you cautious about. The risk is overreach, the spend on the wrong castle, the friendship burned over pride. End the year with the people who saw you small and still stayed.
