Tsukuyomi
Tsukuyomi-no-Mikoto, moon-kami of the pale overcast night
Tsukuyomi was born when Izanagi washed the underworld from his right eye, the moon rising out of grief and cold water, brother to the sun from the left. His father set him to climb the ladder of heaven and rule the night at his sister's side, two lights sharing one sky, and for a while they did. That was before the quarrel that parted them for good. An overcast day is the moon-brother leaning his half of heaven over into hers, grey and borrowed, the closest the two of them come now. If the day feels dim and undecided, it is only an old sibling reaching, you can be soft with it.
If the day never brightens, take the moon-god's shift, tend the quiet task nobody will see and count it counted.
