Japanese · kudzu (kuzu)
the autumn winds
Kuzu is one of the seven autumn flowers of the Man'yōshō. Its purple racemes are smaller than wisteria's, hung from a vine that climbs everything. The root makes medicine; the leaves wrap rice. The plant that gives more than it takes.
