The gods packed him like a mother packs a child for a long trip. Athena, the polished shield. Hermes, the winged sandals. The nymphs, a bag that could fold around anything, even a head that turned onlookers to stone. Perseus asked for help, and it turns out that was the heroic part, before the monster, before the mirror, a boy admitting the task was too big for his own two hands.
