The figs weren't even ripe when the raven found the tree. That was the whole problem. He sat in the branches with the god's cup hanging off his foot and waited days for the sweetness, telling himself the errand could hold. It couldn't. Sweetness took its time and so did he, and when he flew home late he grabbed a water snake as an alibi. One small lie, told to someone who sees everything. His feathers went black before he finished the sentence.
