Castor and Pollux
the twins
Castor was the one who could die, and he knew it the whole time. It didn't make him careful, it made him vivid. He rode harder, loved louder, took the spear-end of the story while his brother stood untouchable beside him. When it came, it came fast, a raid, a wound, the ordinary way. What wasn't ordinary was after. Being pulled back up by a brother who wouldn't let the dark keep him. Mortality is survivable if someone refuses it on your behalf.
Someone would split their days with you, let them.
