Upright
You step into the back room, away from the noise of the shop, and light one small candle to see what you actually think. The Hermit is the walking away from the din to hear your own voice. Solitude here is not hiding, it is a pilgrimage, you went into the quiet because you needed to. The light is small but it is yours. Sit with whatever you've been too busy to feel, the answer is coming, and it is coming in your own voice.
Reversed
The candle blown out or never struck, solitude that stopped being chosen and curdled into loneliness, the door that locks from the inside. Or the other way, so deep in your own head you forgot the warm room is still out there waiting. Come back to the table, or go into the dark on purpose.
In the imagery
In the dim back room of the apothecary a single figure stands among the dark wood shelves, holding one lit candle in a brass cup, the flame steady and small. The shop's noise is shut away behind a velvet curtain, and the jars of dried herb fade off into shadow. There is no other light, no companion, only the one flame and the patience to read by it.
